John F. Kennedy followed in his father’s footsteps in politics and became President in 1961. He was the 35th US President. His father was leader of the Democratic Party and made big contributions.
Kennedy graduated from Harvard after completing his thesis on ‘Appeasement in Munich’, which was later converted into a book known as ‘Why England Slept’ about the acts of bravery by the US senators. It was the later published in 1940.
John joined the navy before America joined the war and saw action through the Pacific Ocean but sadly his boat was rammed by ‘Amagiri’ a Fubuki-class destroyer which sank near Borneo, it was April 23rd 1944, when it sunk it was 115 metres in length.
Kennedy was later discovered and rewarded for his bravery when rescued a fellow crewman from the ship. He was also awarded a purple heart for an incident that happened later in the war. He went on to win a seat at Boston for the US House of Representatives in 1946 and got elected to US senate.
In 1953 he got married to Jacqueline Lee Bouvier. Kennedy was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his book ‘Profiles in Courage’.
In 1960 he won the election and defeated Nixon.
John F Kennedy was in office for a span of 1,036 days (2 years) before he got assassinated on November 22nd 1963 at 12:30am in Dallas, Texas.
